What did the project consist of?

DataRoad's networking team carried out a complete overhaul of the cabling infrastructure, covering all phases of the project:

• Removal of the old cabling, trunking, and existing network and power sockets;
• Installation of new computer cabling CAT6 in all rooms;
• Installation of trunking and new network and power sockets;
• Installation of rack, patch panels and network and power connectors;
• Organisation and identification of all network points, in the rooms and in the patch panel;
• Connection of routers, switches and other network equipment;
• Final certification of the installed network.

Why rewiring makes sense in the face of ageing infrastructure

Older cabling infrastructures—often below CAT6 category—limit network speed and reliability, and become more prone to failure as cables and connectors degrade. In a space with high security and continuity requirements, such as an embassy, an unstable network is not just a technical inconvenience: it can compromise critical communications and systems. A complete renewal, rather than piecemeal repairs, makes it possible to eliminate all the weak points inherited from the original installation at once and to organise the entire infrastructure in a documented manner, with an identified rack and certified cabling.
